Eleven members attended a very popular Come and Sing event with Bob Chilcott at St Editha's Church in Tamworth on Saturday 28th February.
Over 240 people had travelled to the ancient capital of Mercia from far and wide to sing with one of the current masters of English choral music.
For those of us who have done this sort of thing before it was lovely to see familiar faces, albeit all of us that little bit older, and the whole event had a wonderful friendly and easy going feel to it.
Bob led us through his Five Passionate hymns - each a rewrite of a well known hymn with new tunes and descents, each dedicated to those who had influenced his musical life. These are all easily learned and will surely enter the repertoire of the majority of those attending.
More challenging was his latest major choral work "Rainbow". The movements are specially written poems reflecting the colours of the rainbow and as well as being challenging musically, they encourage some in depth reflection on the words. All in all a very well structured work.
Bob was on hand throughout the day to talk to the attendees and personally sign and dedicate copies which had been purchased at the temptingly discounted rates.
ABCD run these events on a fairly regular basis and they are always great opportunities to find new repertoire, sing new works and make lasting friendships. I'm certainly sure we will be going again!
